This famous musical entertainment sees the First World War from the soldiers’ point of view, using the songs they wrote and sang, the jokes they
told and the camaraderie of the trenches to tell the story of the war that ended 100 years ago. With a cast of 17, a professional musical director and band, and an army of backstage helpers, this
production was supported by Lympstone Entertainments as well as the Players.
Rehearsals started in April and gradually intensifed. The Director, Harland Walshaw, moved the production into a final week of run-throughs of the whole show. Pierrot costumes, an assortment of props, and all manner of hats began to appear on stage.
The Musical Director, Sandra Jepps, was with us from the start. In the final week of rehearsals she was joined by the full band.
Our Choreographer, Caterina, introduced the cast to box steps, waltzes and ragtime.
